Whenever I have to wake-up for a dawn patrol such as this 5:00 am wake up call in Costa Rica, I give myself a 3 second count down and say to myself, “Don’t think, just go.” And for the next couple of hours of shooting, I’m in a blurred creative daze and go into photographic autopilot. At the time of this shoot, I only had my film camera and phone with me. Knowing that this orientation of the Land Rover Defender, palm tree and beach was worthwhile, I captured it on both film and digital. Not knowing if the unreliable analog format would result in a clean enough image, it was to my surprise when receiving back the digitized negative that we’re given this beautifully grainy and tactile analog feel of what is one of my favorite photos.
