Edge of the Storm

After spending a few days on a ranch near the Arizona and Utah border, we woke up one morning on the last day of my stay and trotted the horses out to one of the nearby canyons. The river flowing below runs all the way to the Grand Canyon and is part of the upper Colorado River. The distant storm clouds still lingered as light rain showers covered the horizon. As we sat there on the edge looking hundreds of feet below us, a brief window of light opened up in the clouds and gave me just enough time to capture this image. The scale of these massive canyon walls lit up against the dark sky was the perfect addition to this photo. It really looks like a scene taken straight out of an old western film.
