I've always felt very drawn to this poetic place and wanted to soak in the experience by slowly walking through the streets. To see how life unfolds while the city is still above water, as it has been said for many years that Venice is sinking quickly. Gondoliers are still one of the most authentic things to find in Venice; still made by hand, and gondolier licenses are still passed from father to son. This was a natural shot I took while strolling one day. I saw this gondolier on the bridge, waiting in the sun for anyone who wanted a cruise. I was crossing the bridge as he dropped his head down, just enough to pull my camera from my jacket and snap this image instinctively. It was just a fraction of a moment when I walked past him, the moment of our intersection. I love the spontaneity of this image, the lack of preparation makes it all the more unique and special. A reminder that things do not last forever and change is inevitable. Does not matter how hard we try to make things forever- cities, love, moments… Everything will be washed away and it seems meant to be enjoyed in the present moment.
